The Banshees of Inisherin released in 2022 to amazing critical acclaim and response. Winning a whole host of awards at the Golden Globes in January 2023. Filming for the film took place in Achill Island and Inis Mór and it really shows the islands in a stunning way, with the landscape acting as another character in a way.

Set during the Civil War in 1923 on an imaginary island off the west coast of Ireland. The base for the story is two best friends, played by Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell, have a falling out and the ensuing stories and events that occur after this. It includes a star studded cast of the above two mentioned actors as well as Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan. The film was directed by Martin Martin McDonagh.

Tourism Ireland, working with Searchlight Pictures, created a short behind the scenes video using clips shot during the filming of the movie. McDonagh says during the short piece that “What we wanted to capture in the film was the beauty of Ireland and the cinema of it. We just wanted to make one of the most beautiful Irish films we could possibly make.” 

The film takes in a number of landmarks on the islands including Gort na gCapall, Bungowla, Lighthouse Lane, Dún Aonghasa and Rabbit Beach.
